Is Braised Pork Rice from Shandong?

The Michelin Guide known as the bible for gourmet food, recently pointed out that Taiwan’s famous braised pork rice is a well-known snack from Shandong.

The Guide mentions that braised pork rice is a Shandong delicacy made from stir-frying pork with onions.

In response to this, the Taiwanese people say that braised pork rice is a Taiwanese specialty and there is no onion, but red onion in braised pork rice.

In addition, the Taipei City Government said that in the future, they will hold a braised pork rice name rectification event to support Taiwanese snacks.

They will also consider changing the official English name of braised pork rice into the Taiwanese pronunciation to highlight the uniqueness of Taiwanese rice culture.

Dialogue Example:

(Braised pork rice) Christine and Ingrid are sisters. The two are eating Taiwanese snacks at the night market. Let’s listen to their conversation.

Ingrid:I can’t believe you have already had 3 bowls!

Christine:Because braised pork rice is so good!

Ingrid:Is it that good?

Christine:Taste it and you will see.

Ingrid:No way! I get scared from seeing all of that fat! I will stick to eating Taiwanese meat balls.

Christine:This is so tasty! This is one of the things you must eat when you are in Taiwan!

Ingrid:But the Michelin Guide says that braised pork rice is a delicacy from Shandong!

Christine:No, I have never heard of that in all my years in Taiwan! I am sure it is wrong!
