Taian welcomes Low Carbon Day

A staff member of a technology company introduces a solar powered air conditioner to a visitor at an energy saving exhibit on Low Carbon Day, June 14 in Tai`an, Shandong province.

June 14 was Low Carbon Day in Tai`an city in East China`s Shandong province as part of Energy Saving Week from June 11 to June 17. The Tai`an Municipal Commission of Economics and Information held an exhibit to demonstrate the city`s energy-saving achievements during the 11th Five-Year Plan period.

Some technology companies participated in the exhibit to promote energy-saving products such as solar powered air conditioners, energy-saving water heaters and electricity-saving lamps.

"Compared to traditional air conditioners, solar powered air conditioners can save 40 percent to 60 percent of energy," a technology company staff member said.

On June 14, no air conditioners or elevators were in operation in the office building of the Tai`an municipal government. City officials also limited the availability of the building`s electricity and water to set an example for city residents.

The city`s municipal government encouraged citizens to go green by using public transportation, riding a bicycle or walking.

The municipal government wants to increase the popularity of energy-saving products among the public to promote green economic development.
