Orphans in Tai`an get financial aids

Ninety orphans received financial assistance at Tai`an city`s Hope Project, held on June 11 in East China`s Shandong province.

This is the third consecutive year for Tai`an to host the Hope Project, which provides help to the city`s orphans. In 2010, the city raised an orphan-assistance funding of 1.3 million yuan ($200,5000). It has completed the construction of a primary school, and another school is on the way, enabling access to education for at least 370 primary and high school students.

One married couple, Li Changyi and Li Yan, came to the event on June 11. Born to poor families, the Lis know how important it is to provide a chance to these orphans. They are no strangers to Tai`an city`s Hope Project. Over the past three years, the couple has been sponsoring six orphans per year. This year`s event was no exception, but with a little surprise—they brought their six-year-old son to the event.

"My son is a good boy. He sometimes saves his pocket money and tries to help out," Li Yan, the wife, told this reporter.

At this year`s event, the Tai`an municipal government gave awards to those who made great contributions to the city`s orphan-aiding projects.
