BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- China is willing to learn from other countries in the cultural reform and development, Wang Xiaohui, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, stated here on Monday.

Wang is here attending the thematic briefing on the sixth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC, which concluded last Tuesday.

He said China has always laid emphasis on drawing on cultural experiences from other countries. The survival of China’s civilization for such a long time is attributed to its openness and inclusiveness in the cultural development.

“Buddhism was introduced to China from India in the Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty; Arabia culture and Persian culture were introduced to China in the Song Dynasty and Ming Dynasty,” Wang noted.

“Opening to and learning from the outside world will not weaken the advantages and vitality of China’s cultural power, but instead enrich the Chinese culture and make it stronger,” he went on to say.

He stressed that cultural exchanges China needs are supposed to be equal and balanced; besides, the imported cultural products shouldn’t damage China’s political system, social customs and cultural independence.

Wang noted that there are certain problems and challenges facing the cultural development, such as the current dishonesty and corruption in some fields, or the systematic defects in the cultural industries. The only solution to these problems is to deepen reform and accelerate development.

The thematic briefing was held by the International Department of CPC Central Committee for foreign diplomats in China to better understand the essence of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC.

The session, held from Oct. 15 to Oct. 18, adopted a guideline on boosting the reform of China`s cultural system and socialist cultural development.
