COPENHAGEN, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- World number one women`s tennis player Caroline Wozniacki won the Danish Tennis Association (DTA) Player of the Year Award for the fifth year in a row here on Tuesday.

"I am incredibly proud of winning this title once again. It is always special to be recognized for your achievements in your own country," said Wozniacki, in comments cited by the DTA in a press statement.

The decision to honor Wozniacki, 21, followed a vote organized by the DTA, where selected tennis journalists, TV commentators and sports editors elect Denmark`s tennis player of the year.

As the pre-election favorite, she beat competitors including the Danish Davis Cup team to grab the title, which she has won every year since 2007.

Wozniacki, who spends much of her time touring or training in the United States, was not present to receive this year`s award.

She was previously named Denmark`s junior tennis player of the year, every year from 2003 to 2006.

Wozniacki, who has never won a grand slam tournament, finished 2011 at the top of the women`s tennis rankings following six WTA victories this year in Dubai, Indian Wells, Charleston, Brussels, Copenhagen and New Haven.
