Dane shines in Weihai event

Denmark`s Jimmy Johnsen won the men`s title at the Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Series over the weekend in Shandong province.

Three hundred and eighty-seven athletes from 24 countries and regions took part in the race, which featured three kilometers of swimming, 80 km of cycling and a 20 km run.

Johnsen`s winning time was 3 hours, 49 minutes and 43.58 seconds. Second was Frenchman Francois Chabaud and third was Australian Aaron Farlow.

Swiss Caroline Steffen, Czech Radka Vodickova and Australian Rachel Paxton were the top three finishers in the women`s event.

The only Chinese in the professional group, Shi Qingli from Shandong, finished eighth in 4:14.34.93.

The event marked the first time an ITU-sanctioned long-distance triathlon had been held in Asia.
