Participants from home and abroad attending the Mountain Taishan Forum in Tai’an joined a ceremony at Grand View Peak on the mountain Nov 7 to unveil the Declaration of Mountain Taishan. The declaration acknowledges Mountain Taishan’s significance as a symbol of Chinese civilization and core Chinese values throughout history. Making Mountain Taishan known to the world is deemed by local authorities as a timely move in line with China’s expanding international influence. Ba Zhongyan, former commander of armed police, and Bai Yucui, head of Tai’an’s municipal publicity department, were among officials attending the scroll signing ceremony. Nearly 200 students from Taishan College recited the famous poem, Ode to Mountain Taishan, by classics scholar Ji Xianlin. "I know Mountain Taishan has always been important throughout China’s history. However, I did not know why it is so important until I started preparing for this performance. Now I know much more, and I feel a stronger sense of duty to promote it and our national culture,” student Ji Kunpeng said. |
