Shandong has donated 8.71 million yuan toward relief efforts in Taiwan in the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot, local authorities from the Taiwanese Affairs Office announced.

The donation came from all parts of the province, including governments, schools and local citizens.

Shandong Taiwanese Affairs Office contributed 100,000 yuan while the city governments of Dezhou and Linyi donated 200,000 yuan respectively.

Companies in Shandong have also been helping Taiwan Morakot victims: Haier donated 2 million yuan, Tsingtao Beer and Weifang Investment Company each donated 1 million yuan and the Qingdao Port Authority donated 500,000 yuan.
