SDU Honorary Doctor Jao Tsung-I's Art Exhibition Held at the National Museum of China

  On the afternoon of April 28, the opening ceremony of Jao Tsung-I's art exhibition was held at the National Museum of China in Beijing. Zhang Rong, President of Shandong University (SDU), was invited to attend the ceremony and visited Jao Tsung-I, Emeritus Professor of the University of Hong Kong, a member to China's Central Research Institute of Culture and History (CRICH), and holder of an honorary doctorate of SDU。

  As this year is Jao’s 100th birthday, the National Museum of China held the full-scale art exhibition to honor him; it comprehensively covers his academic and artistic achievement in the past 80 years. The academic exhibits include nearly a hundred books, academic papers, multiform manuscripts, and letters as well as works related to Jao by other scholars. The artistic exhibits include calligraphies and paintings by Jao from the 1950s to 2015.

  As a famous Chinese scholar, poet, calligrapher and painter, Jao Tsung-I dedicated his life to Chinese culture studies. His research fields include archeology, literature, philology, musicology and history. In addition, Jao was awarded an honorary doctorate of Shandong University in 2014. He also presented his inscription to SDU to express his praise for academic development by SDU over one hundred years.

  Prior to the art exhibition, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Jao in Beijing, capital of China, on April 27, 2015
