The Double Stars 2011 International Varsity Debate came to an end on October 22 in Qingdao, a coastal city in Shandong province. Chen Ming from Wuhan University and Wang Xuemei from Heidelberg University won the honor of "Best Debaters".
The debate attracted teams from 16 universities, including Harvard, Princeton and Tsinghua universities.
The university students were encouraged to think outside the square in debating current social issues and the exchange of their ideas.
The well-known Chinese scholar and writer Yu Qiuyu, who has been invited as the chief judge, spoke highly of the debaters from home and broad.
"The two winners are among the world`s most excellent young people debating in Chinese," said Yu.
Sponsored by China Central Television and Singapore`s New Media Group, the International Varsity Debate runs every two years.
