German Culture Festival of BISU kicks off
  

The Art Group of Beijing International Studies University performed a fragment of "The Magic Flute," a composition by Mozart in the eighth ABCDV German-speaking Countries` Culture Festival. (People`s Daily Online/ Yao Chun)

The eighth ABCDV German-speaking Countries` Culture Festival, hosted by the Beijing International Studies University (BISU), kicked off on Nov. 14. Luxemburg ambassador in China, authorities of the Goethe Institute and Beijing International Studies University, general director of ABCDV, a website dedicated to the study of German as well as consulting of study abroad to Germany.

This German-speaking Countries` Culture Festival will last for eight days, and a series of cultural events will be held in the meantime, such as German speech contest, a theme party based on Grimms?fairy tales as well as Chinese-German Bilingual Closing Ceremony of the Culture Festival. Participants not only can taste the traditional delicacies of Germany but can also appreciate the culture of German-speaking Countries.

Sebastian Vetter, the deputy director of the Beijing branch of the Goethe Institute, said at the opening ceremony, that the language is the most important bridge between different cultures. In the process of globalization, many Chinese are making efforts to dominate a second foreign language besides English and a great number of then have chosen German. At present there are 27,000 Chinese students in Germany and 36,000 Chinese students learning German in China.

Liu Xuehui, dean of German Language Department of Beijing International Studies University said: We hope to present the history and culture of German-speaking countries, enrich extra-curriculum activities of university students as well as raise students` interests in learning German.

At the event, the German sinologist Mr. Merker performed a Chinese song he composed titled "Traveling Across China." The Art Group of Beijing International Studies University performed a fragment of "The Magic Flute," a composition by Mozart. The students enjoyed them very much.(Yao Chun)
